Why does my pack of gizzards and hearts contain mostly gizzards?
We strive to include equal portions of the gizzards and hearts in each package, but it doesn't always happen. This item is packaged to a weight target and not to the number or type of piece, so sometimes this allows for more of one part than the other.
What is a gizzard?
The gizzard is essentially the stomach of the chicken. Chickens don't have teeth, so they need some way to grind up their food before it enters the digestive tract. The gizzard's muscle contracts and is aided by gritty, sand-like particles that the chicken ingests and helps grind the food.
